Charity Items
Below is a picture of our six board members who have worked hard this year to raise money, keep accounts, support fellow patients and provide comfort packs and useful items to hospitals treating HNC. Our most recent purchase, after a lot of discussion, was of a set of water flossers and other dental products for the Auckland Hospital and Specialist Dentistry Department.
Issues discussed on our Facebook forum
The shock of a new diagnosis. Knowing that you are going to have extensive surgery followed by radiation and chemotherapy is a shock to the system that we can only try to mitigate through peer support.
Physio issues. We had an interesting talk with physio, Shannon Ruddell, Advanced Clinician Lymphoedema at the Te Toka Tumai/ADHB Lymphoedema Service as our second information based Zoom meeting. We will need to get Shannon back one day to talk about our other painful side effects. We touched on the issue of helping fund some patients for Pinc and Steel courses which would be more holistic physio courses for HNC patients. The idea of a Zoom exercise class with a physio also came up. We want to help and this is another possible avenue for us in 2023.
Fundraising
We have a team for Round the Bays on March 5 next year! Our team is called Heads Up and the earlier you enrol, the lower the entry fee is. So far we have 8 people and most of us are walking.
If you want to run it as your own team or as an individual, you can run for us as we are one of the charities on the list. We have a good supply of t-shirts for all and sundry.
