We were overjoyed to hear that Pharmac is on track to fund Keytruda for recurrent and metastatic head and neck cancer from 1 October this year. No more Givealittle campaigns for life prolonging treatments!

This month also sees us marking World Head and Neck Cancer Day on July 27. Our key message this year is “awareness”. We want to make the public aware of this less well known cancer.

See this page about WHNCD on our website. We have the history of WHNCD, what it means to us and how we try to help others by providing items they might not otherwise be able to afford. We are always grateful for donations large and small.

In the Facebook forum some main topics this month have been waiting for scan or biopsy results and once again coping with a feeding tube. We have collated some links to the Peter Mac Centre in Melbourne.

Finally, here is a picture of Christchurch member Maurz Taane completing her final five year checkup. It’s hard to sum up the first five years: the shock of diagnosis, the pain of treatment, the fear of recurrence. It’s good to see our members get through those years and move on.
